The practice is a subcontractor
to the National Health Service, NHS and agrees through a service
lead contract to provide primary medical services to our patients
in the upper Gwendraeth Valley area.
The present practice was established by our predecessors,
namely, Dr. Ivor Evans and Dr Roger Thomas in 1948, but a
surgery had previously existed at 13 Waterloo Road in the
home or Dr Clutterbuck who was one of the first doctors to
set up a practice in the area.
The practice was developed on two sites at Penygroes and
Garreg Hollt, Cefneithin and also had village surgeries to
care for patients in these country areas. The present surgeries
are situated in Pengroes just a few yards from the original
site and at the Health Centre at Crosshands where we share
facilities with our neighbouring practice.
The services we provide are agreed by the NHS through the
Local Health Board and at present we are developing our care
programme in line with the new General Medical Services, GMS
New Contract which starts on April 1st 2004.
The new contract doesn’t affect the running of the
practice as we have geared ourselves for change over the last
few years. We hope that our patients receive the best care
that we can provide and we hope to improve our care programme
even further in the coming years and will do so in conjunction
with our patients and our patient group representatives.
